Escaping the Dark Winter

sun has fled the wintry sky
wind bites through all flesh and bone
ice o’ertakes and freezes blood
threat’ning to engulf the home

but

sun shines warm and bright inside
shelter covers from harsh gale
smiles and kisses humours thaw
comforts over dark prevail

so

rest I here in gentle peace
her breath sweet upon my face
evils kept at bay tonight
banished from the healing place
