What If

Hope… change… these words have been thrown around so much in the last year. But I look at the past few months and I see instead growing despair… and no real change. We’re still handing billions to billionaires, paid for by the middle class. We’re still believing that governments can solve the problems that they themselves caused.

Real hope and real change would come with a return to personal liberties, a rejection of empire and war. Of coming to see government interference in business (and vice versa) as equally as evil as government interference in religion (and vice versa).

I’m glad we still have some speaking out against war, for personal liberty, and for the separation of church and business, despite the growing discomfort of the Powers That Be.

What if it is finally realized that war and military spending is always destructive to the economy?

What if we finally see that wartime conditions always undermine personal liberty?

What if conservatives, who preach small government, wake up and realize that our interventionist foreign policy provides the greatest incentive to expand the government?

What if we as a nation came to realize that the quest for empire eventually destroys all great nations?

What if Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq?

What if a military draft is being planned for the wars that will spread if our foreign policy is not changed?

What if the American people learn the truth: that our foreign policy has nothing to do with national security and that it never changes from one administration to the next?

What if Christianity actually teaches peace and not preventive wars of aggression?

What if diplomacy is found to be superior to bombs and bribes in protecting America?
Ron Paul: Statement to the House of Representatives, February 12, 2009

What if we actually elected freedom and change instead of the same old, same old, same old…
